The Millan Centre is a community centre for women and girls. We run educational, social and health related activities for women and girls in the Manningham and Heaton area of Bradford.
Millan Centre is a charitable organisation and a company limited by guarantee. The registered office is at the Centre. There are six members of the Management Committee who have overall responsibility for the Centre and a small team of full and part-time staff.
Millan Centre’s aim is to provide women and girls with:
- A stimulating, responsive and varied programme of educational, training and social activities in a safe and accessible environment
- Support to empower individuals to achieve their full potential and become active citizens
- Equal access to opportunities regardless of race, disability or age and a valuing of diversity
- Opportunities through partnerships with other groups and organisations
Millan Centre is a purpose-built centre in the heart of the Manningham community. It was established in 1988 by a group of adult education tutors working with local women. The women identified a need for an easily accessible and welcoming centre with good childcare provision, where they could socialise and learn English within easy distance of their homes. Acceptability to women and their families was essential.
The centre is independent and the only area provision specifically for women and girls. All project work is carried out through funds obtained from grant making bodies or through partnerships.
We provide a range of activities, groups and courses for women and girls of all ages including sewing classes, an Over 50’s group, Gardening classes, ESOL classes, Confidence building and many more.
